Where external links are used
Teams, notes, trackables, and trackable-group defaults can include one optional user-provided external link plus one link description. The link is displayed between the title and description when it is available.
- Team pages can use an external link for additional information related to the team.
- Notes can use an external link for additional information related to the note.
- Trackables can use an external link for additional information related to the tracked item or route.
- Trackable groups can define a verified default external link that later activations may intentionally keep using.
Verification and description rules
- Only valid absolute http:// or https:// links are accepted. Relative links, malformed links, localhost, and private-network addresses are rejected.
- A link description is unavailable until the link verifies successfully. If the link is removed, changed, or later fails verification, the description field becomes unavailable again until the new link is verified.
- During verification, LocationNotes requests the destination page, screens it for adult-content signals, and uses the HTML title as the starting link description. If no title is found, the starting description becomes "no title found on external page".
- If a custom description is edited and the link changes later, the new link has to verify again before the description can be used.
Safety screening and support review
If the destination appears to contain adult content, the link is rejected. If you believe the result is incorrect, use the QaH page and include the link you attempted to add for review.
Verification can also fail if the site cannot be reached, returns an error, or blocks the request before the title can be read.
When verification fails, LocationNotes returns the verification-endpoint HTTP status and, when available, the upstream destination-site HTTP status so the failure reason is visible in custom clients and support troubleshooting.
Public exit page and responsibility
Public-facing external links open a LocationNotes exit page in a new tab first. That page explains that the destination was provided by a user and that LocationNotes does not control or accept responsibility for third-party content, availability, or safety.
User-provided external link. LocationNotes does not control or accept responsibility for third-party content, availability, or safety.
Trackable-group defaults and activation intent
When a trackable group has a default external link, an activated trackable can either save its own verified link or explicitly confirm that it should keep using the verified group default without creating a duplicate item-level link.
API, exports, and deletion

Stored external links and link descriptions are included in the relevant account export, team export, and supported deletion workflows. account je data yIQaw' describes the current deletion boundaries.
