Concept guide

What is an Email?

LocationNotes uses email in two different ways: required security email for account protection and optional feature email for product events you choose to follow.

Required security email

Security email is part of the account itself. Password reset links and email-change confirmation links are sent when those flows are requested, and they cannot be turned off from account settings.

If you still want to use password recovery or change the address on the account, keep access to a working email inbox and use the account security page when you need to update that address.

Optional feature email

Feature email is separate. You can configure each optional alert from Notification Settings and choose Neither, Email, SMS, or Both for each event.

SMS notifications are coming soon and are not active yet. Choose Email if you want optional alerts today, or choose Both to keep email active while your SMS preference is saved for launch.

You also understand that attaching a trackable to a note can grant the note's required access scope, while current note access still follows the note's own visibility and scope rules instead of a permanent note pointer on the journey.

How opt-out works

You can disable every optional feature email, or only the categories you do not want. Turning off optional feature email does not turn off password reset or other required account-security email.

Feature alerts are sent to the current email address on your account. If that address changes later, future optional alerts use the new address.

Team member and admin scopes

Some optional alerts let you choose between teams you belong to and teams you administer. Admins are also team members, so LocationNotes sends only one email for the same event even when both scopes are enabled.
